How to Play Deuces and Joker Poker Video Poker
Deuces & Joker Poker is a unique video poker game for several reasons. The most obvious motivation is that the cards are dealt from a 53 card deck that includes one Joker; everyone’ favorite Wild Card. To make things even more interesting, all Deuces are wild as well. The top payout is an incredible amount, unleashing 10,000 coins for landing all five wild cards (Quad 2’s with Joker), but you’ll have to bet the max 5 coins to win anything for this remarkable hand.
Deuces and Joker Video Poker is a fairly common variant found throughout land-based and online casinos. This guide will refer specifically to the version produced by the leading online casino software development brand, Microgaming. The rules and payouts may vary somewhat at live casinos, or online casinos powered by a different platform.
Let’s take a look at the basic screen options of Deuces & Joker Video Poker.
- Optional Coin Sizes: $.25, $0.50, $1, $2, $5
- Coins per Play: 1 to 5
- Min / Max Bet: $0.25 / $25
- Max Payout: 10000 Coins
- Lowest Winning Hand: Any 3 of a Kind
How to Play Deuces & Joker Video Poker
Deuces and Joker Poker is as easy to play as any other video poker game at Microgaming online casinos. The first step is to choose a coin size, from $.25 to $5 per coin, by clicking the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons. Then choose how many coins to bet by pressing the Bet One button for each coin you wish to play. Alternatively, pressing the Bet Max button will bet the maximum 5 coins and instantly deal the cards. Otherwise, you will need to press Deal to start the game.
Five cards are dealt, all face up. Please be aware that all Microgaming online video poker machines invoke an automatic strategy based on the most probable cards to produce a winning result. For this reason, some cards may already have a HELD sign on them. You are NOT required to hold onto these cards. Simply clicking on any card will change its status from HELD to un-held, or vice versa. Remember that the Joker and all Deuces are wild, so you don’t want to get rid of these. They are clearly marked with a WILD symbol, so you won’t easily forget.
When you are ready to discard and draw new cards, click the Deal button. All HELD cards will stay in place, while all others are exchanged for new cards to produce your final, 5-card hand. If the hand ranks high enough for a win (3 of a Kind or better), the pay table will highlight the rank of the hand and corresponding winnings, which are instantly credited. If it’s not a winner, the bet is lost and you are ready to play again.
Every time a player wins a hand in Deuces and Joker Poker, they are given the option to play a special High-Low game for double-or-nothing. To skip this game, keep your winnings and play more video poker, press the Collect button. To play the double-or-nothing High-Low game, press Double.
Deuces & Joker Video Poker Double Feature
When a player chooses to play the Double feature, the screen changes to a new 5-card game. This time, only the first of five cards is dealt face-up. This is the card to beat in order to double your winnings. You must click one of the four face-down cards. If the chosen card ranks higher than the first card, you win. If not, the entire bet is lost and the game returns to normal video poker mode.
If you should win the Double feature, you are asked once more if you’d like to risk it all on another double-or-nothing bet, or collect your winnings and return to the Deuces and Joker Poker game.
