We’ve already covered some of the most common online gambling mistakes you could be making – oversights or missteps that could be impacting your playing and your progress. Now let’s take a look at more errors you could unconsciously be making. A few adjustments here and there and you could soon be on the path to success!

You’re not spending enough time away from the casino
You know how when you discover something for the first time, you want to enjoy it as much as possible? It’s a natural reaction to the new, the exciting, the exhilarating, and it’s a common response, particularly when gambling online for the first time. However, too much of a good thing is bad, as the saying goes, and this applies to all new pursuits and hobbies. While you may be having a ball at the casino and wanting to enjoy the same thrilling experience as often as possible, it’s equally as important to spend time away from the casino enjoying other activities too. Not only will this help you live a more balanced, well-rounded life, it’ll give your bankroll time to breathe, and it’ll help you value your time in the casino more as well. Not to mention it could help you avoid certain problem gambling behaviours too.

So keep your mind and your bank balance healthy, and set yourself certain daily, weekly or monthly gaming limits every day – guidelines as to when you’re able to play at the casino, and for how long. Then go off and enjoy your gaming sessions in the casino, and your life outside it too.

You’re not keeping track of your bets
We know that when you’re gambling online, the temptation is just to place your bets and have fun – that’s what it’s all about after all. But if you’re going to be playing online regularly, rather than a once-off, you’ll need to keep track of how much you’re spending, and how much you’re winning and losing too. Yes, there’s a little effort required, but it’s all in the name of bankroll management and making sure that you’re not playing with money you can’t afford.

In the same way that you should be setting yourself session limits (see above), you should also be setting yourself wagering and loss limits too, in order to protect your bankroll and ensure that you can always afford to come back and play another day. A little effort today means being able to come back tomorrow, which is always more than worth it.

You’re not walking away soon enough
It sounds completely counter-intuitive right? Why would you walk away from a casino session when you could just stay and play? Well, when you’re on a winning streak, you’re feeling on top of the world and everything’s going right. So if you’re still within your session limits and your betting limits, there’s no reason not to stay and see how things turn out.

If you’re on a losing streak however, which happens from time to time, you’ll need to have the discipline to walk away and limit your losses before they begin to spiral. Yes, there’s always the temptation to want to stay in the game and win back what you’ve lost, but ultimately this is the quickest way to blow through your bankroll in minutes. If the cards, the dice or the reels aren’t going your way, you’ll need to resist the urge to stay, and walk away instead. You’ll protect your all-important bankroll, and you’ll have more peace of mind too.

You’re not managing your bankroll effectively
You know how every month you budget a certain amount for bills and other expenses? If you’re going to be gambling online regularly, you’ll need to do the same with your gaming expenditure too – budget for it every month just as you would any other financial obligation. That’s because when it comes to gambling, whether in real life or online, the most important point to consider is always the health of your bankroll. No bankroll, no gambling – so the more you’re able to do to protect your account balance and budget responsibly, the better.

We’ve mentioned some techniques that you can use to manage your bankroll effectively – setting yourself session, wagering and loss limits, and walking away from a losing streak before you spend more than you can afford. Ultimately all these guidelines allow you to do one vital thing – protect your bankroll at all costs.

Why is it so crucial to manage your bankroll? Because it’s easier than you think to get caught up in the moment – to place bets you haven’t budgeted for, to lose track of your spending, and to play past your limits, all while feeling the thrill and adrenaline of gaming. That’s why it’s so important to always be in control, both of your behaviour, and of your betting too. Being able to manage your bankroll means you’ll always have an account balance that’s in the black, and you’ll always be playing with funds you’ve specifically budgeted for that purpose, rather than playing with money that might have been earmarked for other things. Keep your wits about you, keep your budget in mind, and you’ll be winning before you’ve even placed a single bet.

You’re not having fun
Session limits, wagering limits, loss limits, bankroll management and more – it’s easy to get caught up in the numbers and forget what you came to the casino for in the first place. Having fun! If you’re worrying too much about the budgeting side of things and not focusing on the pure entertainment of casino play, then you’re not giving yourself the benefit of the full casino experience. And while it’s important to bear your budget and your bankroll in mind, at its core, online casino play is all about having fun – and if you’re not enjoying yourself then you’re missing out on the best part of gambling.

So put the work and the worry to one side, forget about the outcome of the game, and just enjoy yourself. That’s why you’re at the casino after all, and if you’re not making the most of the whole experience, then you’re making the biggest mistake of all. Put the groundwork in place with your planning, and then relax and enjoy yourself. And if you come across a jackpot or two while you’re in the casino, so much the better!
