BGC backs the fight against problem gambling with a donation
As fun and exciting as gambling can be, for some, it can unfortunately be problematic – which is why the industry prioritizes (BGC) support for those affected by problem gambling. The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) recently announced that it has collectively donated £172.5 million ($222.73 million) towards responsible gambling initiatives over the past four years.
The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) is the UK’s industry body for betting and gaming. It represents online gaming, betting shops, and casinos. Promoting safer gambling standards, advocating responsible practices. And ensuring a fair and regulated environment for all stakeholders.
With members such as Evoke (888/William Hill), bet365, Flutter and Entain contributing £122.5 million to the total. The BGC was able to exceed its goal of £100 million in donations between 2020 and 2024. This will ultimately benefit several Research, Prevention, and Treatment (RPT) initiatives run by the charity GambleAware. A cause worthy of ongoing support and funding.
The BGC has made numerous contributions
In the same way, the BGC has also made significant contributions towards the support of young people, donating £10 million to the Young People’s Gambling Harm Prevention Programme, run by YGAM and GamCare in the UK.
With these sizeable donations, and contributions from other members and licensees. The BGC has been able to donate a combined amount of £172.5 million over the past four years. An amount that can help substantially in the fight against problem gambling.
BGC Executive Director of Standards and Innovation, Wes Himes, agrees: “While this voluntary levy has delivered record funding. The BGC supports the replacement of the current levy scheme with a mandatory one. But the delivery of this new scheme must ensure future funding security for the third sector which is delivering such excellent work.
“As we go forward, this huge investment will continue, underlining this sector’s unrivalled commitment to responsible betting and gaming.”
It’s impressive to see BGC’s dedication to responsible gambling initiatives. Their support for prevention programs and young people’s education exemplifies a thoughtful approach to addressing problem gambling, reflecting genuine commitment. This robust investment ensures a welcoming, safer environment for gamers.
