Today might just be the last day Australians can play online poker! The Australian Senate just passed a Gambling Amendment Bill which bans all online casino activities and comes into effect September 2017. For years now, there has been a very intense debate over whether online poker should be banned in Australia and after months of deliberation, they finally passed the bill banning it.

The aim in the bill is to protect the most vulnerable parts of society by banning online poker as a means to evaporate all offshore gambling activities. Just to clarify, it will still be completely legal to play on offshore gambling sites, but operators operators cannot offer up any bonus offers unless they wish to be subjected to serious fines of up to $5 million for each day services continue. This bill is obviously mainly for operators and therefore residents of Australia shouldn’t worry too much about giving up their favorite online casinos however, it is definitely something to be aware of.

Stay tuned for more updates about Australian bills with regards to gambling!

Good Luck playing in the meantime 🙂
