Aces & Faces is a very popular video poker variant in which players are hoping to achieve a hand that consists of a Pair of Jacks, or anything better. The Jacks or Better philosophy dominates most video poker games, but in Aces and Faces, there are extended payouts for creating special hands, specifically those that contain Four or a Kind with Face Cards or, even better, Four Aces.

There is also an attractive Doubling feature players can opt to participate in each time they win a payout. Aces and Faces is even more appealing to video poker fans because it produces higher payouts for playing more coins. That means that the payouts don’t multiply evenly. A Royal Flush pays 500 for 1 coin and 1000 for 2 coins, which is an even progression. However, it jumps to 2000 for 3 coins, 3000 for 4 coins and 4000 for 5 coins. Thus the payout percentage becomes higher for betting 3 or more coins.

The Aces and Faces online video poker game detailed herein accords explicitly to the game as created by Microgaming, the world’s leading developer of online casino software. Most online casino brands have a similar video poker game, but the rules and payouts may vary from those set forth by the Microgaming variation.

Let’s take a look at the basic screen options of Aces & Faces Video Poker.

  • Optional Coin Sizes: $0.25, $0.50, $1, $2, $5
  • Coins per Play: 1 to 5
  • Min / Max Bet: $0.25 / $25
  • Max Payout: 4000 Coins
  • Lowest Winning Hand: Pair of Jacks

How to Play Aces & Faces Video Poker

This is a simple game to play. Start by selecting the bet size using the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons, then select how many coins to bet; 1 thru 5. Clicking Bet Max will automatically bet 5 coins and begin the game. Otherwise, players can click Bet One as many times as needed to place the desired bet, then click Deal to start the hand.

Five cards are dealt face up. Note that the online casino invokes instant strategy for the player, should he wish to use it. A HELD sign will be instantly placed on any cards that would be strategically best to hold. Players are NOT required to follow this advice. Clicking any card will change its status from HELD to un-held, and vice versa.

When ready, the player must click the Deal button. All cards marked HELD will remain, and all others will be replaced by new cards to develop a new, 5-card poker hand. This hand is immediately evaluated by the online casino, with a winning hand paid accordingly.

If the hand does not qualify for a payout, the bet is collected and a new hand is ready to begin.

A winning hand will result in the highlighting of the winning hand rank on the pay table, along with the prize won. At this point, the player has a choice to make. He can choose Collect to claim his winnings and start a new hand, or he can choose to play the Double game.

Aces & Faces Double Feature

The Double feature is an optional High-Low game in which the player can instantly double their previous winnings, or lose it all. Five cards are dealt face down. The first card is then turned face up. The player must then click any one of the remaining face-down cards. If the chosen card is higher in rank than the first card, the player wins the double bet. If the player loses, the entire bet is lost and the game returns to the Aces and Faces video poker screen.

When a player wins the Double round, they are asked once more if they want to Double, or Collect the winnings. If the player chooses to Double again, another High-Low game is played.
